The market

Supplying protective clothing to Egypt

Egypt has the largest industrial workforce in North Africa and one of the region's densest concentrations of refining, petrochemical and fertiliser capacity. The Suez Canal Economic Zone has added a substantial manufacturing and logistics layer on top of that. Red Sea entry at Ain Sokhna is also one of the shorter sailings from Nhava Sheva to any African port. Sanctum Work Wear manufactures in Mumbai and supplies Egypt's hydrocarbon, industrial and construction sectors.

Egypt is the most procedurally demanding market in our African programme, and worth being clear-eyed about. Registration requirements can attach to the manufacturing facility itself rather than only to the shipment, and that registration takes time to obtain. It is not a market to promise a client on a short lead time. Where the relationship justifies the groundwork, though, the industrial base is large enough to repay it several times over.

Compliance

Importing PPE into Egypt

Import registration is completed by your Egypt-registered consignee. We supply the manufacturer-side documentation that registration depends on.

Regulator
The General Organization for Export and Import Control administers import registration and product control for regulated goods.
Factory registration
Egypt operates a register of approved foreign manufacturing facilities for certain product categories. Where it applies, the registration attaches to the factory and must be obtained before goods can be imported. This is a lead-time item measured in months, not days.
Advance cargo information
Shipments are pre-registered electronically through Egypt's advance cargo information system before the vessel sails, with the importer and exporter details matched.
Standards
Egyptian standards published by the national standards organisation apply, with the end client naming the applicable specification in a tender.
Documents we issue
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, ISO 9001:2015 certificate, EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611 fabric certificates, and mill test reports for the supplied lot.

Certification

Quality system
ISO 9001:2015, covering the Mumbai manufacturing operation.
Flame retardant fabric
Our flame retardant garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 (clothing to protect against heat and flame) and EN ISO 11611 (clothing for welding and allied processes). Certification is held at fabric level. Fabric certificates and mill test reports for the lot used on your order are supplied with the consignment.
Certificates on request
Copies of the ISO 9001:2015 certificate and the applicable fabric certificates are issued with quotations and accompany every consignment.
Matching certification to your tender: flame retardant requirements are written differently by every client, and the fabric construction that satisfies one specification will not always satisfy another. Send us the relevant clause from your tender or HSE standard with your enquiry and we will confirm in writing which of our certified fabrics can be supplied against it, and exactly which certificates and test reports will accompany the goods.

Questions

Egypt workwear supply: common questions

Is factory registration really required to export workwear to Egypt?

For certain regulated product categories Egypt maintains a register of approved foreign manufacturing facilities, and where it applies the registration attaches to the factory rather than to the individual shipment. It has to be in place before goods can be imported and is a lead-time item measured in months. Your Egyptian importer or customs broker should confirm the current scope for the specific HS code before anyone commits to a delivery date.

Which port gives the shortest transit from India?

Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea, at roughly eight to eleven days from Nhava Sheva, which is among the shortest sailings from India to any African port and considerably quicker than the Mediterranean entries. Alexandria requires transit through the Canal and typically runs fourteen to eighteen days. If your consignee is in Cairo, Suez or the economic zone, Ain Sokhna is usually the better routing.

Do you supply flame retardant clothing for Egyptian refineries?

Yes. Our FR garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611, with the fabric certificates and mill test reports for the supplied lot accompanying the consignment. Where a refinery or EPC contractor names a specific standard in the tender, send us the clause and we will confirm in writing which of our certified fabrics can be supplied against it.

What is realistic on lead time for a first Egyptian order?

Longer than most markets, and we would rather say so than discover it together later. Where factory registration applies it dominates the timeline, and it should be started well before a delivery commitment is made to an end client. Once registration is in place, subsequent orders run on normal production and transit times.

Can you supply a distributor covering both Egypt and neighbouring markets?

Yes. Egyptian distributors sometimes serve Libya, Sudan and parts of the Levant alongside the domestic market. We can structure pricing and packing for stock-and-release supply, though the import requirements of each destination country need checking separately since they do not follow Egypt's.
