The market

Supplying protective clothing to Kenya

Kenya is East Africa's distribution centre as much as a market in its own right. Cargo landing at Mombasa moves up the Northern Corridor into Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and eastern DRC, so a Nairobi or Mombasa distributor holding stock is effectively serving a region several times the size of the domestic economy. Sanctum Work Wear supplies industrial coveralls, safety footwear and protective accessories into Kenya's construction, manufacturing, energy and agro-processing sectors.

India and Kenya have a long trading relationship and Kenyan buyers are already comfortable sourcing from Indian manufacturers, which shortens the trust-building phase considerably. The market is price-sensitive, which favours us directly, but the binding constraint is documentation: Kenya requires conformity verification before shipment, not after arrival, and getting that wrong is costly.

Compliance

Importing PPE into Kenya

Import registration is completed by your Kenya-registered consignee. We supply the manufacturer-side documentation that registration depends on.

Conformity scheme
PVoC, the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme administered by the Kenya Bureau of Standards. A Certificate of Conformity must be issued in the country of export before the goods ship.
Critical sequence
PVoC is a pre-shipment programme. Goods arriving without a Certificate of Conformity attract penalties and destination inspection costs, so the verification must be built into the despatch schedule.
Import declaration
An Import Declaration Form is lodged by the Kenyan importer, and customs entry is processed through the integrated customs management system.
Standards
Kenya Standards published by KEBS apply, and the applicable standard is usually named by the end client in a tender.
Documents we issue
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, ISO 9001:2015 certificate, EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611 fabric certificates, and mill test reports for the supplied lot.

Certification

Quality system
ISO 9001:2015, covering the Mumbai manufacturing operation.
Flame retardant fabric
Our flame retardant garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 (clothing to protect against heat and flame) and EN ISO 11611 (clothing for welding and allied processes). Certification is held at fabric level. Fabric certificates and mill test reports for the lot used on your order are supplied with the consignment.
Certificates on request
Copies of the ISO 9001:2015 certificate and the applicable fabric certificates are issued with quotations and accompany every consignment.
Matching certification to your tender: flame retardant requirements are written differently by every client, and the fabric construction that satisfies one specification will not always satisfy another. Send us the relevant clause from your tender or HSE standard with your enquiry and we will confirm in writing which of our certified fabrics can be supplied against it, and exactly which certificates and test reports will accompany the goods.

Questions

Kenya workwear supply: common questions

What is PVoC and when does it need to be done?

PVoC is Kenya's Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme, run by the Kenya Bureau of Standards. A Certificate of Conformity must be issued in India before the goods ship. It is emphatically not something that can be sorted out after arrival, and consignments landing without it attract penalties and destination inspection costs. We plan production and despatch around the verification so it does not become the thing that delays your shipment.

Can you supply a Kenyan distributor serving the wider region?

Yes, and it is often the most sensible structure. Cargo landing at Mombasa moves up the Northern Corridor into Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and eastern DRC, so a distributor holding stock in Nairobi or Mombasa serves a far larger market than Kenya alone. We will structure pricing and packing for stock-and-release rather than single-project supply where that suits.

How long is shipping from Mumbai to Mombasa?

Sea freight from Nhava Sheva to Mombasa typically runs twelve to sixteen days in transit, which is among the shorter African routings from India. Production time sits ahead of that and depends on order size, colourway and whether embroidery is required. Air freight into Nairobi is available for size sets and urgent top-ups.

Do you supply flame retardant clothing for geothermal and power work?

Yes. Our FR garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611, with fabric certificates and mill test reports accompanying the consignment. Geothermal and transmission work often specifies arc-rated or FR outerwear, so send us the client's HSE specification with your enquiry and we will confirm in writing what can be supplied against it.

What quantities do you supply, and can we start small?

Kenya is a market where buyers frequently want to prove the garment on site before committing to volume, and that is a reasonable way to work. Tell us the garment type, the size spread and the number of sites, and we will quote against your actual requirement. Order quantities depend on fabric and whether the colourway is standard or custom.
